FCS Donates $370,000 to Moving In The Spirit

From our recent sale of the historic Atlanta Stockade/GlenCastle development, FCS plans to reinvest the proceeds from the sale back into our focus neighborhood, the community of Historic South Atlanta, including a special donation to Moving in the Spirit.

FCS donated 10 percent from the sale price ($370,000) to Moving in the Spirit, a nonprofit that shared the Glencastle space with us and has been a tremendous ally and close partner for many years. Moving in the Spirit is a nationally-recognized youth development program that uses the art of dance to positively transform the lives of children and teens in Atlanta.

“With the proceeds raised by this sale we will invest in our core mission to transform neighborhoods on Atlanta’s southside,” says FCS President Jim Wehner. “Our donation to Moving in the Spirit is a way for us to support the local youth through an organization that inspires and positively influences our local children.”

The donation will specifically support Moving in the Spirit’s capital campaign to build a new home for their creative youth development programming.

“FCS’s donation will support the construction of Moving in the Spirit’s first ever permanent home, a 21,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility that will be part of MARTA’s transit-oriented development at the Edgewood/Candler Park station,” shared Dana Lupton, Co-Founder and Executive/Artistic Director of Moving in the Spirit. “This generous gift speaks to FCS’s commitment to cutting edge, impactful community development.”

Groundbreaking for the new facility is projected for early 2018.

FCS’s donation was officially presented to Moving in the Spirit during their annual end-of-the-year performance at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University on May 4, 2017. It has been a joy to work with Moving in the Spirit so closely over the years, and we are honored to continue to support their innovative and creative work with local youth.
