We love our city and are proud to work alongside creative people seeking ways to serve Atlanta residents and to help our neighborhoods thrive. In March 2017, our FCS team was hosted by Representative David Dreyer at the State Capitol.
Rep. Dreyer proposed House Resolution 298 formally recognizing and commending FCS. We are tremendously grateful and humbled by the encouragement and recognition. The resolution reads as follows:
Recognizing and commending Focused Community Strategies; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Focused Community Strategies has been dedicated to aiding underserved neighborhoods in Atlanta, including Grant Park, Ormewood Park, Summerhill, East Lake, and now Historic South Atlanta, for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, FCS’s unique approach to aiding communities in need involves implementing comprehensive, neighborhood-focused strategies instead of individual programs; and
WHEREAS, the work of FCS is concentrated on facilitating neighborhood engagement, mixed-income housing, economic development, and training and consulting; and
WHEREAS, the core values of FCS are the dignity and significance of every person, the empowerment of others to do for themselves, and the intentional neighboring that creates community among diverse residents; and
WHEREAS, in 2000, FCS’s dedication was recognized by the South Atlanta Civic League, and it requested that FCS bring its community development model to Historic South Atlanta, and since then, FCS has restored over 140 homes, attracting numerous families and creating a wholesome, viable, self-sustaining mixed-income neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, FCS also identified needs for a local grocery store, community center, and job hub in Historic South Atlanta, leading it to open Carver Neighborhood Market, Community Grounds Café, and South Atlanta Bike Shop, all of which provide local jobs and a safe space for the community to gather.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Focused Community Strategies for its outstanding dedication to helping underserved neighborhoods in Atlanta.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Focused Community Strategies.
